Shuten-douji C - "Premium Edition"

This is the "Premium Edition" of the Sake Cup C-“Consciousness” by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally original piece that showcases Ichikawa’s signature style of giving shape to his endless stream of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. The title "Consciousness" is truly philosophical, as is typical of Ichikawa's work. While inheriting the characteristics of the Consciousness series—based in red and black—this piece features even bolder scenery, with gold and red glazes splashed on with dynamic intensity, and ash applied by opening the kiln during the firing process. The poured ash glaze resembles molten gold nuggets, and where it rests on the black glaze, it takes on a bluish-white tone reminiscent of straw ash glaze, creating a landscape of intense impact.
