Description

This Bizen rice bowl is the work of Shusaku Taku, an artist who shapes his pieces using the emotions of daily life as yeast, drawing from Bizen ware that has matured alongside the continuous activities of people over generations. While many Bizen rice bowls feature the gentle firing typical of "ta-tsuchi" (rice field clay), this piece strongly reflects Taku's artistic commitment, resulting in a refined, austere aesthetic. The rich coloration, characteristic of Taku—a true connoisseur of clay—is captivating, and the "hidasuki" (fire-cord) pattern inside resembles the skin of a perfectly ripe apple. The thin, meticulous craftsmanship and the elevated foot make it both easy to use and a pleasure to behold. Paper box
