Description

This is a newly kiln-fired Bizen sake cup by Shin Nakamura, a renowned master of sake vessels and tableware and the eldest son of the late Bizen legend, Rokuro Nakamura. This shallow, flat-style cup is highly regarded among sake enthusiasts for how it enhances the flavor of the drink. The rim, with its ideal thickness—neither too thin nor too thick—curves slightly inward, and combined with its undulating form, it fits comfortably against the lips while preventing spills, a practical benefit of its flat shape. The piece features a soft, persimmon-like scarlet hue on both the front and the interior, creating an exquisite aesthetic that gains a captivating luster when wet. The subtle, matte "kase-goma" ash glaze is understated yet deeply characterful, making this a highly refined piece that can be enjoyed for years to come. Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 8.8cm × 8.5cm × Height 3.2cm Born as the eldest son of Rokuro Nakamura, Shin Nakamura began learning the fundamentals of pottery from his father in 1971, dedicating himself to honing his technique. To master the firing styles of Living National Treasure Toyo Kaneshige, he spent ten years assisting and receiving guidance from Michiaki Kaneshige during kiln firings. He became independent in 1975. He primarily creates tea ceremony ceramics and tableware, as well as flower vases, sake bottles, and sake cups. He actively holds solo exhibitions across Japan, including in Tokyo, Okayama, and Nagoya.
