Description

This is a new Blue Bizen gold-painted sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. This gold-painted sake cup was fired using the intense reduction technique at which Baba excels, resulting in a blue Bizen finish where a metallic-shimmering hi-dasuki (fire cord) pattern adorns the surface. The piece is striking for its challenging design, characteristic of Baba, such as the fine cuts made with a spatula to enhance the brilliance of the gold, and the tripod-style 'warikodai' (split foot). Inside, the straw used in the firing process has taken on a shimmering blue-silver hue due to the blue Bizen firing, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful way it reflects sake, reminiscent of refined metal.
