Description

This is a newly kiln-fired sake bottle titled "Blue Ladder: RIKYU" by Toru Ichikawa, who made a sensational debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work, true to Ichikawa’s style of giving form to his endless stream of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. This sake bottle is part of his new "Blue Ladder" series, in which the blue color is developed during the cooling process after firing. True to the title RIKYU, the color transitions from a vivid blue to a muted, sophisticated blue, featuring a glaze texture reminiscent of a tiger’s stripes with hints of yellow and black. The base body is a bold, ingot-like gold, with a crimson glaze applied around the waist—a feature not seen in his "HIDEYOSHI" series. While the vivid blue and gold are particularly eye-catching, the bold form that brings them all together is equally magnificent. Includes signed wooden box (shiho-zan).
Rim 4.0cm × Body Diameter 8.5cm × Body Diameter 8.5cm × Height 15.8cm; Capacity approx. 190cc Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
