Description
This is the latest sake cup, "Céladon №3," by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is a highly original and exceptional piece, characteristic of Ichikawa, who gives form to his inexhaustible ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to its title, "Céladon" (the French word for celadon), the work expresses a new worldview using cool celadon glaze and platinum luster. The celadon glaze, edged with gold, features delicate crackles that possess an icy beauty, boasting the high level of perfection expected of an artist as dedicated to glaze research as Ichikawa. The contrasting black and silver Kagutsuchi glaze emits a moderate sheen, its molten iron-like presence accentuating the beauty and coolness of the celadon glaze. As this piece is №3, the celadon glaze has a stronger sense of transparency, allowing the underlying platinum luster to shine through, while in thicker areas, the crackles form a landscape with remarkable depth.
