Description

This is a new glass piece, "Shion" (Aster), by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work that is characteristic of Ichikawa-sensei, who gives form to his ceaselessly overflowing ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to the title "Shion," the piece features a delicate and beautiful blue-purple glaze. The clay base is coated with a gold underglaze beneath the blue-purple, causing the colors to shift in various ways through light reflection, much like a prism. Over this, a gold-leaf finish adjusted to a coppery hue has been applied, enhancing the shimmering blue-purple and creating a color harmony befitting the name Shion. Furthermore, "hagakure-beni" (hidden red) glaze has been applied as an accent in several places, resulting in the delicate yet bold style for which Ichikawa-sensei is known. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 7.5cm × Diameter 7.4cm × Height 12.3cm Toru Ichikawa-sensei was born in Tokyo. He began studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki-sensei in June 2011 and became independent in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
