Description

This is a brand new Bizen beer mug, just fresh from the kiln by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Kōriki, an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. This latest piece, fired in early summer 2018, is an extra-large mug crafted with the goal of bringing out the best qualities of Bizen clay and surpassing the performance of glass mugs. It is an exceptionally large size for Bizen ware, holding approximately 1000ml—the same capacity as a standard beer mug. True to Kōriki's style, it is crafted from high-quality Bizen clay, with a moist, fine-grained texture that creates a finer beer foam, dramatically enhancing the flavor. Cooling the mug before use allows the surface to retain moisture, further accentuating the beauty of the clay and the natural ash glaze (goma). This exquisite piece is perfect for a hot summer, reasonably priced, and makes an ideal gift. Paper box
Diameter 15.3cm × 10.8cm × Height 11.5cm Yoshiteru Kōriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Inspired by his father's love for pottery, he pursued a career in ceramics and, after graduating from high school, studied under the masters Sozan Kaneshige and Arihisa Kaneshige starting in 1989. After seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and set out on his own, successfully firing his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Kita no Kashiki" (Northern Confectionery Vessels) exhibition, and in 2002, he was selected for the "Chanoyu no Zokei" (Forms of Tea Ceremony) exhibition for the first time.
