Description
This is a newly fired *tokkuri* (sake bottle) titled "Liberalism," a fresh creation by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. True to Ichikawa’s style of channeling his ceaseless flow of ideas into the supreme medium of clay, this is an exceptionally original and unconventional piece. As the title "Liberalism" suggests, while it strictly utilizes Bizen clay, the focus of its creation lies in bold expression through the use of glaze. The combination of an intensely vibrant white glaze and a matte black glaze with extremely fine particles, integrated with the techniques for manipulating glaze morphology developed during his "Kagutsuchi" series, forms the novel and innovative landscape characteristic of Ichikawa’s work. This piece features a Sanskrit character at its center—specifically the "Kiriiku" (Hrih) character, representing the zodiac signs of the Dog and Boar, as well as Amitabha Buddha.
