Description

This is a brand new sake cup, "Arancio," freshly pulled from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakinoki. It is a highly original and exceptional piece, characteristic of Ichikawa-sensei, who gives form to his endlessly overflowing ideas through the supreme medium of clay. The title "Arancio"—Italian for "orange"—features a light, vivid orange glaze, a testament to Ichikawa-sensei's passionate research into glazes. The delicate white glaze, resembling a light frost, is breathtakingly beautiful, and its translucent quality pairs perfectly with the orange glaze. In contrast to the exterior, the interior of the vessel features the orange glaze as the protagonist; a rich, dense orange spreads across the surface, as if the vessel were a fruit brimming with juice. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included.
Diameter 7.6cm × 7.0cm × Height 6.5cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakinoki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
