Description
This is a brand new sake cup titled "Liberalism," freshly fired from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakizaki. True to Ichikawa-sensei’s style of shaping his endless stream of ideas through the supreme medium of clay, this is an exceptionally creative and unconventional piece. As the title "Liberalism" suggests, while strictly utilizing Bizen clay, the focus of the creation is on bold expression through the use of glazes. It combines the characteristics of various series created to date, featuring a powerful "katamigawari" (split-body) design: one side uses a milky white glaze reminiscent of quartz or stalactites, while the other side features a red glaze with fine, Bizen-style "kairagi" (crackle glaze) that resembles lizard skin. This piece features a Sanskrit character at its center—specifically the "Kirik" character, which represents the Dog and Boar zodiac signs as well as Amitabha Tathagata.
