Description

This is the new sake cup "Liberalism" by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a sensational debut. It is an exceptionally creative work that reflects Mr. Ichikawa's signature style of manifesting his boundless ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to the title "Liberalism," it is crafted with a focus on bold expression through glazes, while still utilizing Bizen clay. Incorporating features from various series he has created to date, he has formed an Ichikawa-esque world that is both bold and delicate, inserting a vivid streak of gold like a ray of light into a black glaze that resembles ore. This piece features a Sanskrit character in the center, specifically the "Kiriiku" (Hriḥ) character, which represents the signs of the Dog and Boar, as well as Amitabha Buddha. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.0cm × 6.6cm × Height 6.4cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his independence in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
