Description

This is a newly fired Bizen sake pourer by Shusaku Taku, an artist who shapes his work by fermenting the various inspirations of daily life into Bizen ware—a craft that has matured alongside the continuous activities of people throughout history. True to Taku-sensei’s style of carefully crafting each piece as if to reach the heart of the recipient, this pourer is meticulously detailed down to the finest points. Fired with the aim of achieving the austere texture of antique Bizen, the thoroughly fired brownish-red surface appears to already possess an ancient dignity despite being a new work. Furthermore, in this piece, the clay body itself has a marbled appearance, and when overlaid with matching dark brown *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings, it creates a complex palette of colors.
