Description
This is a brand new sake cup titled "Liberalism," freshly fired from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative and unconventional piece, characteristic of Ichikawa-sensei, who brings his endlessly overflowing ideas to life through the supreme medium of clay. True to the title "Liberalism," it is crafted with a focus on bold expression through glazes, all while strictly using Bizen clay. The piece combines features from his various past series, featuring a mysterious, crystal-like light blue glaze paired with a matte black that is unrivaled in its ability to accentuate other glazes, resulting in an exquisitely avant-garde color scheme. This particular work incorporates a Sanskrit character at its center, specifically the "Kiriku" (Hrih), which represents the signs of the Dog and Boar, as well as Amitabha Tathagata.
