Description

This is a new black cup & saucer by Masao Akiya, a ceramicist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works overflowing with his own originality while embracing a fresh spirit. It is crafted using the black Bizen technique inherited from his mentor, Jun Isezaki, and features a wonderful shade of black that is both deeply lustrous and warm. The piece is made using black clay from Osafune Isokami, which is dissolved and applied to the surface to develop its color; because it is a slip-applied clay, the exact hue of the black changes exquisitely depending on the firing conditions. This work has a smooth sheen across the entire black surface, allowing you to enjoy a deep luster while feeling a soft texture that is comfortable to the touch. The refined design, typical of Akiya, is extremely stylish; rather than relying on complex ornamentation, it features a simple structure that emphasizes the beauty of the silhouette and lines, fully utilizing the chic and modern aesthetic of black ceramic works.
