Description

This is the new sake cup "Liberalism-Diamond Black" by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptional work, brimming with the originality characteristic of Ichikawa-sensei, who gives shape to his ceaseless flow of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to the title "Liberalism," the work focuses on bold expression through glazes while remaining strictly committed to the use of Bizen clay. Among the highly popular Liberalism series, this is a rare piece subtitled "Diamond Black," and it features a remarkably hard, translucent black glaze that lives up to its name. It is not merely a black glaze; Ichikawa-sensei has adjusted it to emit a pale, fantastical glow, creating a mesmerizing color that one could gaze at endlessly. In contrast to the exterior, the interior base features a full gold-leaf application, accented with a milky-white glaze containing faint blue hues reminiscent of White Hagi ware. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 7.9cm x 7.7cm x Height 6.6cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
