Description

This is a freshly kiln-fired small Bizen ware teacup by Shusaku Taku, an artist who shapes his work by using the emotions of daily life as his "yeast," all while staying true to the Bizen tradition that has matured alongside human activity through the ages. Reflecting Taku-sensei’s signature style of crafting each piece with the intent of reaching the user's heart, this work is meticulously detailed down to the finest points. The *kase-goma* (matte sesame-like ash glaze) covering the entire surface is exceptionally fine, combining with a sophisticated deep-green hue to resemble the texture of tree bark—it is truly wondrous to think this was born from earth and fire. The *nuke* (areas left unexposed to ash) feature a dark scarlet tone, allowing you to enjoy the changes in character and the ease of "maturing" the piece through use, which is a hallmark of *kase* works. Thrown on a wheel with a thick wall for hot tea, it has a slight sense of weight, yet offers the excellent heat retention characteristic of Bizen ware that makes it so practical. Paper box
