Description
This is "Beer Liberalism," a brand-new work fresh from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative piece that showcases Ichikawa’s signature style of giving form to his endless stream of ideas through clay, the ultimate medium. True to the title "Liberalism," while the work is rooted in the use of Bizen clay, the focus lies on a bold expression achieved through the application of glaze. Combining the characteristics of the various series he has created to date, the work incorporates a streak of brilliant gold, like a ray of light, into a black glaze that resembles ore, creating a world that is at once bold and delicate. It is not merely a black glaze; Ichikawa has adjusted it to emit a pale, ethereal glow, a hue so captivating that one never tires of gazing into it. For this piece, a Sanskrit character is placed in the center; specifically, the "Hrih" (Kiriiku) character, which represents the zodiac signs of the Dog and Boar, as well as Amitabha Buddha.
