Description

This is a Bizen tea cup by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, a former apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. It is a magnificent piece featuring "Kase-goma" (dry sesame-glaze), one of Master Koriki's signature firing styles. When wet, both the interior and exterior reveal a vibrant scarlet hue that becomes even more beautiful, perfectly showcasing the charm of Bizen ware, which is a joy both to use and to "nurture" over time. This scarlet color makes tea taste better than anything else, and the warmth felt through the moistened surface, combined with the subtle changes in color, offers an unforgettable tactile experience distinct from porcelain. The "Kase-goma," resembling tree bark, adds a refined touch, and the exquisite balance between the scarlet surface and the weathered, dry texture will never cease to fascinate the viewer. The rim is thinned and tapered, making it suitable for use as a beer glass as well. Paper box
Diameter 7.6cm x 7.5cm x Height 9.0cm

*A shipping fee of 500 yen applies. Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, who loved pottery, he set his sights on a career in ceramics. After graduating high school in 1989, he studied the craft under the father-and-son masters Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige. Following seven years of apprenticeship, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and successfully held his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Sweets Containers of the North" exhibition, and in 2002, he was selected for the "Forms of Tea Ceremony" exhibition for the first time.
