Description
This is a new lidded vase made of Bizen clay by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create works that suit modern life. The vase features a marble-like surface, created by mixing 10 different types of clay and firing them unglazed. It is crafted primarily from rice-field clay, which is meticulously pounded to fill the gaps between the clay layers; its complex patterns and unprecedented colors evoke a desire to pick it up and use it. Only the bird on the lid is finished with Oribe glaze, and the simple yet charming design makes it look like a warbler. When flowers are arranged in the vase, placing the lid to the side allows the bird's quirky expression to delight you as a wonderful supporting character. Beyond its use as a flower vase, it would also be interesting to use it as a lidded container, like a *furidashi* (sweet container), or as a small lidded *tokkuri* (sake bottle).
