Description

This is a brand-new sake cup, "Liberalism-II," freshly out of the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakizaki and made a striking debut. It is an exceptionally creative work, true to Ichikawa-sensei, who gives form to his ceaselessly overflowing ideas through the supreme material of clay. As the title "Liberalism" suggests, while strictly using Bizen clay, the focus is on bold expression through glazes. This "Liberalism-II" allows you to enjoy two completely different expressions of black using two types of black glaze. The exterior features a black glaze that emits a bluish sheen, offering a refined, steel-like hue. In contrast, the interior is a black that seems to swallow light, a glaze so deep it draws you in like the cosmos. Once again, a Sanskrit character is used in the center of the work, and in this piece, it is the "Ban" character, representing the zodiac signs of Monkey and Sheep, as well as Mahavairocana. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 7.8cm × 7.5cm × Height 6.5cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakizaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
