Description
This is "Hagakure 2018," a sake cup by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative piece that embodies Mr. Ichikawa’s style of giving form to his endless stream of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. This is the 2018 edition, the latest entry in his "Hagakure" series, which serves as a recurring theme throughout his work. In this version, a thin white glaze is applied over a silver surface with a texture reminiscent of concrete, creating a visual effect that makes the vividness of the Hagakure crimson glaze stand out even more. The base surface has a weathered, scraped appearance, and the evolution of the glazing style is evident in the unique, smooth-to-the-touch texture fitting for the "Hagakure 2018" name. It possesses a fantastical appearance, as if metal and ice have been fused together, and its unique texture—something that can only be achieved with ceramics—is unforgettable once seen.
