Description

This is the *Shuten Liberalism-II* by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a sensational debut. It is an exceptionally creative work that exemplifies Ichikawa's style of giving form to his endless stream of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to the title "Liberalism," the work focuses on bold expression through glazes while strictly utilizing Bizen clay. In this *Liberalism-II*, one can enjoy two different black expressions created by two types of black glaze. The exterior features a black glaze that emits a bluish sheen, offering a refined, steel-like hue. In contrast, the interior is finished with a "light-swallowing" black glaze, a deep, cosmic black that seems to draw the viewer in. Entirely monochromatic, this piece stands out as uniquely striking even among Ichikawa's body of work, which frequently features bold arrangements of glaze. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.4cm × 7.4cm × Height 6.7cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
