Description

This is a brand-new piece, "Glass Liberalism Ver. 6.21.2," just out of the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work, true to Ichikawa-sensei, who gives form to his ceaseless flow of ideas through clay, the supreme medium. True to the title "Liberalism," while strictly using Bizen clay, the focus of the piece is on a bold expression using glazes. For this updated version of "Liberalism," he has challenged himself with a daring aesthetic: a deep, glossy black, upon which a red glaze emerges as if captured by a thermography camera. It is a complex black glaze incorporating various hues, containing a depth of color that includes brownish areas and sections that shimmer with a steel-blue light depending on the angle of the light. The interior of the vessel appears as if a deep purple has been reduced and blackened, offering a different charm from the exterior. Signed wooden box (tomobako) with four-way interlocking lid
Diameter 8.2cm x 8.0cm x Height 12.6cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
