Description

This ceramic bowl is the work of Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and strives to create crafts that suit modern life. It is a ceramic-bodied lacquerware piece made by applying lacquer over a pottery base, and the primitive vermilion surface is finished in a highly stylish manner. To make the most of the unique atmosphere of the ceramic body, this rice bowl was meticulously crafted using the coil-building technique over a long period of time, with the unique texture created by hand-work further enhancing the primitive feel of the piece. The bowl itself is highly refined, and because the deep red achievable only with lacquer beautifully accentuates the refreshing green of matcha, it would be interesting to use it not only as a rice bowl but also as a matcha tea bowl.
