Description
This black beer mug is the work of Masao Akitani, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works overflowing with unique originality within a fresh aesthetic. It is crafted using the Kuro-Bizen (black Bizen) technique inherited from his mentor, Jun Isezaki, resulting in a black color that is wonderfully exquisite, possessing both a deep luster and a warm tone. It is made using black clay from Osafune Isogami, famous for sword making, which is dissolved and applied to the surface to create a beautiful black finish. The piece was fired upside down, featuring vibrant "tobi-goma" (flung sesame ash glaze) on the base, while the interior displays an all-over scarlet hue from "hi-dasuki" (fire-cord) techniques, creating a stunning contrast with the black exterior.
