Description

This is a newly kiln-fired sake cup, "Hagakure 2019," by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakinazaki. It is an exceptionally creative work that exemplifies Ichikawa's talent for giving form to his ceaseless flow of ideas through clay, the supreme medium. This is the latest 2019 edition of the "Hagakure" series, a recurring theme throughout his work. The base features a fascinating contrast in texture and color, split between a smooth white glaze and a reddish-purple section where the glaze forms granular beads, characteristic of his "Kagutsuchi" series. The distinct crimson glazed lines, a signature feature of the Hagakure series, are applied both inside and out in this piece, further refining its boldness. The lines are also accented with his trademark gold embellishments, providing a magnificent finish. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 6.2cm × 5.8cm × Height 6.7cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakinazaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
