Description

This ceramic bowl is the work of Koji Nakahara, a protégé of Fumio Kawabata, who strives to create pieces that harmonize with modern life. As a piece of *totai shikki* (lacquerware on a ceramic base), its primitive brown finish is exceptionally stylish. To emphasize the unique atmosphere of the ceramic body, it is meticulously crafted by hand using the coil method, with the manual texture further enhancing the primitive feel of the piece. Given its high level of craftsmanship and the wabi-sabi brown finish that only lacquer can produce—which beautifully complements the vibrant green of matcha—this bowl is not only suitable for rice but would also make an intriguing matcha tea bowl.
