Description
This Bizen tea cup is by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young ceramic artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. It is a magnificent piece featuring "Kase-goma" (dry sesame ash glaze), one of Mr. Koriki's signature firing techniques. Both the interior and exterior reveal a scarlet hue that becomes even more beautiful when wet, perfectly illustrating the charm of Bizen ware, which is a joy to both use and nurture. This scarlet color makes tea taste better than ever, while the warmth transmitted through the moist surface and the subtle shifts in hue offer a unique, unforgettable experience that differs from porcelain. The tree-bark-like Kase-goma adds a truly refined touch, creating an exquisite balance between the scarlet surface and the weathered-looking ash that keeps the viewer constantly captivated. The rim is relatively thin and tapered, making it suitable for use as a beer glass as well.
