Description

This is a Bizen tea cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young ceramic artist who was a live-in apprentice to the late master Sozan Kaneshige. It is a magnificent tea cup featuring "Kase-goma" (dry sesame glaze), one of Mr. Koriki's signature firing techniques. Both the interior and exterior reveal a scarlet hue that becomes even more beautiful when wet, perfectly capturing the appeal of Bizen ware, which is as enjoyable to use as it is to nurture. Above all, that scarlet hue makes tea taste delicious, and the warmth felt on the moistened surface, along with the subtle changes in color, provide a unique and unforgettable experience quite different from porcelain. The "Kase-goma," resembling the texture of tree bark, is truly sophisticated, and the exquisite balance between the scarlet surface and the weathered "Kase" texture ensures the viewer never tires of it. The rim is relatively thin and tapered, making it suitable for use as a beer glass as well. Paper box
Diameter 7.4cm × Diameter 7.3cm × Height 8.4cm

※A shipping fee of 500 yen applies. Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, who loved pottery, he set his heart on a path in ceramics, and after graduating from high school in 1989, he apprenticed under the father-and-son team of Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige to learn the craft. After seven years of training, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and struck out on his own, successfully firing his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Confectionery Containers of the North," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Exhibition of Chanoyu Ceramics" for the first time.
