Description
This is "Shuten Liberalism-II" by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work, true to Ichikawa-sensei, who gives form to his endlessly overflowing ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to the title "Liberalism," the work focuses on bold expression using glazes while staying strictly within the bounds of Bizen clay. In this Liberalism-II edition, one can enjoy two different black expressions using two types of black glaze, despite both being black. The outer rim is finished with a black glaze that emits a bluish sheen, reminiscent of the refined hue of steel. In contrast, the interior is a black that seems to swallow the light, a glaze so deep it draws you in like the cosmos. The piece is entirely black, standing out with a unique brilliance even among the works of Ichikawa-sensei, who is known for his bold arrangements of glazes.
