Description

This is a sake cup by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative piece, typical of Ichikawa, who translates his endless flow of ideas into form through the supreme medium of clay. The piece is glazed with a platinum base overlaid with a celadon-type glaze, creating a highly dense, three-dimensional texture reminiscent of raw crystal. The multifaceted form further enhances the intrigue of the glaze, giving the impression that the sake cup was carved from a rough quartz stone. The sharp lines of gold leaf stand out beautifully against the fantastical glaze, resulting in a magnificent finish that is unmistakably Ichikawa’s. Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 7.5cm × Diameter 6.8cm × Height 6.8cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
