Description

This is a newly kiln-fired Bizen sake cup by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who creates deeply expressive works while continuing the lineage of master sake ware potters Rokuro Nakamura and Shin Nakamura. While inheriting the style of these masters, this cup reflects Kazuki’s own unique sensibility, blending his signature touch with a character distinct from that of his father and grandfather. With its low-centered, substantial form, he utilizes a deftness of hand reminiscent of his grandfather Rokuro to create powerful swells at the rim and foot, lending this young artist's work a seasoned, mature presence and a unique charm. Departing from the so-called "sweet" scarlet hues typically associated with the Nakamura family, this piece captures the "firmly fired, matured aesthetic" found in Rokuro Nakamura’s early-to-mid-career works, with deep shiso-leaf purple and dark scarlet tones creating an exquisite gradation. The sparse dusting of yellow sesame glaze adds a refined, tasteful quality to the sake cup. Signed wooden box (double-slat lid)
Diameter 7.6cm × Diameter 7.6cm × Height 4.1cm Kazuki Nakamura was born in 1980 as the eldest son of Shin Nakamura. After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather and father to hone his ceramic skills. He fired his first kiln and became an independent artist in 2006.
