Description
This is a brand-new sake cup titled "Fusion," fresh from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. True to Ichikawa’s style of channeling his endless stream of ideas into the supreme medium of clay, this is an exceptionally creative and unconventional piece. The title "Fusion" reflects his challenge to achieve a new form of expression that transcends even the merging of ceramics and metal. By layering Shino-style feldspar glaze with platinum and gold leaf, the work evokes the feeling of distinct materials being joined together while retaining their unique characteristics, just as the title suggests. The pale orange hue of the feldspar glaze is reminiscent of human skin, and when combined with the platinum and gold sections, it creates a mysterious aesthetic that feels like the fusion of organic and inorganic matter.
