Description
This is a newly kiln-fired *hi-dasuki* (fire-cord) tea cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. The reduction-fired *hi-dasuki* that Morimoto refers to as "extraction ware" truly lives up to its name, with the colors appearing as if they were drawn out from deep within the clay. On a luscious, chocolate-toned surface, vivid vermilion cords bloom as if the fire is still burning within the piece. Though classified as a simple tea cup, this masterpiece possesses the grace and intensity of a small cylindrical tea bowl; it showcases the superb formative skill Morimoto has honed through the input of his research into ancient ceramics and the constant output of his thoughtful creative process. Morimoto notes that reduction-fired *hi-dasuki* has great depth, and that the more it is used, the more the clay surface develops a rich, enjoyable character.
