Description
This is a new ancient-style sake cup featuring the goddess Bastet by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create works that suit modern life. It is the latest addition to the "Kao-hai" (Face Cup) series inspired by Egyptian mythology, resulting in a fascinating piece based on the goddess Bastet. True to the goddess known in Egyptian mythology for her cat-like visage, it features an impressive, dignified expression reminiscent of a leopard. The entire piece is adorned with a beautiful gold glaze called "Susogo-kinsai" (gradation gold), which reacts with the fine comb-mark textures representing fur to create a mysterious and intriguing golden coat-like appearance. Viewed from the rim, it takes on a shape similar to an ancient Chinese "jue" vessel.
