Description

This is a black cup and saucer by Masao Akitani, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works overflowing with unique originality within a new spirit. It is crafted using the Kuro-Bizen (black Bizen) technique inherited from his mentor, Jun Isezaki, and features a wonderful black color that is deep and glossy yet warm. It is made using black clay from Osafune Isokami, which is dissolved and applied to the surface to create the black color; because it is a slip-applied clay, the shade of black changes exquisitely depending on the firing conditions. This piece has a smooth luster across the entire black surface, allowing you to enjoy a deep sheen while its soft texture ensures a pleasant, stress-free experience. The sophisticated design, characteristic of Akitani, is incredibly stylish; to emphasize the chic and modern nature of the black work, it is designed simply, highlighting the beauty of its silhouette and lines rather than relying on complex ornamentation.
