Description
This is the "Shuhari Liberalism Ver. 6.21.2," fresh from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakinuma. It is a piece of exceptional originality, characteristic of Ichikawa, who gives shape to his ceaseless flow of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to the title "Liberalism," the work focuses on bold expression through glazes while remaining strictly rooted in the use of Bizen clay. As an upgraded version of Liberalism, this piece challenges a daring aesthetic where red glaze emerges against a deep, lustrous black, reminiscent of a thermograph. The complex black glaze incorporates a variety of hues, holding great depth with brown-toned sections and areas that glisten like steel depending on the light. The interior (mikomi) appears as though deep purple has reduced to a blackened state, offering a different charm from the outer periphery.
