Description
This Bizen sake cup was created by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who crafts works of profound depth, following in the footsteps of the master sake vessel makers Rokuro Nakamura and Makoto Nakamura. While inheriting the lineage of these master potters, Kazuki infuses his own unique sensibility into his work, distinguishing his style from that of his father and grandfather. With a low-slung, substantial form, he imbues the rim and foot with powerful undulations through a technique so skillful it could be mistaken for that of his grandfather, Rokuro; despite his youth, the piece exudes a calm, veteran-like presence and a unique charm. Departing from the so-called "sweet" scarlet hues typical of the Nakamura family, this piece captures the "firmly fired, seasoned texture" characteristic of Rokuro Nakamura’s early to middle period. It is a masterpiece that captivates the heart with its rich shiso-red color and subtly applied hidaski (fire-cord) markings. Within its hard-fired surface, the delicate gradations unique to Bizen pottery emerge, creating a landscape of profound character that brings great tranquility to the spirit.
