Description

This Bizen tea bowl is by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who creates deeply expressive works in the lineage of the master sake vessel makers Rokuro and Makoto Nakamura. While following in the footsteps of these masters, Kazuki infuses his own unique style into his work, and this particular tea bowl features a flat, sake-cup-inspired shape that is characteristic of his approach. The low-profile, sturdy form features powerful undulations at the rim and foot that evoke the handiwork of his grandfather Rokuro, giving this young artist’s work a seasoned composure and a unique allure. It is an interesting experiment in which he has enlarged his highly regarded flat sake cup design for use as a tea bowl. The user experience remains identical to that of a sake cup, with the shape allowing the tea's aroma to gently unfold, while the uniquely undulating rim offers a soft touch to the lips. The piece features a soft, brown earthen base, with a "botamochi" (peony cake) firing mark without sesame glaze in the interior. No box
