Description

This Bizen sake cup is by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who carries on the lineage of the master sake vessel makers Rokuro Nakamura and Makoto Nakamura, creating works of profound depth. While following in the footsteps of these masters, Kazuki brings a unique sensibility to his style that sets him apart from his father and grandfather. With a low-slung, substantial form, he creates powerful undulations in the rim and foot with a deftness that could easily be mistaken for his grandfather Rokuro’s touch; despite his youth, his work possesses the poised atmosphere and distinctive allure of a seasoned veteran. Rather than the so-called "sweet" scarlet hues typically associated with the Nakamura family, this piece features the "firmly fired, seasoned texture" seen in Rokuro Nakamura’s early-to-mid-period works, with a rich shiso-leaf color contrasted by a deeper, earthier brown that gives it a refined, austere quality. Within the hard-fired surface, the delicate gradations unique to Bizen pottery emerge, creating a landscape of understated beauty that brings a profound sense of tranquility.
