Description
This is a new Bizen ware mug by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young ceramic artist who was a live-in apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. This latest piece, fired in early summer 2019, is a magnificent mug featuring "kase-goma" (dry, crusty sesame glaze), one of Koriki’s signature firing styles. The interior displays a brilliant scarlet "hi-iro" that becomes even more beautiful when wet, perfectly embodying the charm of Bizen ware, which is a joy to both use and nurture. This scarlet hue also enhances the flavor of your drink, while the warmth transmitted to the dampened surface and the delicate shifts in color offer a unique, unforgettable tactile experience distinct from porcelain. Furthermore, the tree-bark-like kase-goma is truly sophisticated, and the exquisite balance between the scarlet skin and the withered kase texture ensures that the piece never ceases to fascinate the viewer.
