Description
This is a new Bizen mug by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. This latest piece, fired in early summer 2019, is a magnificent mug featuring "Kase-goma" (dry sesame glaze), one of Koriki's signature firing styles. The interior reveals a "hi-iro" (scarlet) hue that becomes even more beautiful when wet, perfectly illustrating the charm of Bizen ware, which is a joy both to use and to nurture. This scarlet tone makes beverages taste even better, while the warmth transmitted through the moist surface and the subtle changes in color offer a unique experience that, once felt, is impossible to forget—unlike any porcelain. The "Kase-goma," resembling the bark of a tree, adds a sophisticated touch, creating an exquisite balance with the scarlet surface that never ceases to captivate the eye.
