Description
This is a brand new sake cup, "Kitty," fresh from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work that exemplifies Ichikawa's talent for giving form to his endless stream of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. While titled "Kitty"—meaning a kitten—the color scheme, featuring white and pink as the base with accents of red, evokes the globally renowned Japanese character, Hello Kitty. The soft white clay has been skillfully faceted, and the raw, rugged texture of the clay is preserved and sealed beneath the finishing glaze, creating a profound aesthetic. This is combined with a sweet pink reminiscent of strawberry cream and a vibrant, jelly-like crimson glaze, resulting in an appearance akin to a confectionary cake—a fancy style that offers a delightful departure from Ichikawa's usual work.
