Description

This new tea cup is the work of Masao Akitani, who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality within a fresh aesthetic. This "kumidashi" tea bowl features the spectacular scenery produced by the traditional Isezaki-school anagama wood-firing technique; while the form is simple, the beauty of the clay surface is its most compelling feature. The interior presents a landscape of a swirling storm of "goma" (ash glaze), while the vivid "hidasuki" (fire-cord) markings and intense ash deposits evoke the scene inside a kiln where crimson flames and embers dance. The exterior combines vibrant scarlet hues with "shironuke" (white negative space), as if the path of the fire has emerged as a shadow of white. This is a somewhat deep, large-sized tea bowl that can be used in various ways depending on your ideas, such as for a small serving bowl or a rice bowl. No box included
Diameter 10.6cm × 10.2cm × Height 6.2cm
