Description
This is a new cup and saucer by Masao Akiya, a potter who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works overflowing with unique originality within a fresh aesthetic. This cup and saucer set features a magnificent appearance created through the traditional wood-fired kiln (anagama) technique of the Isezaki school, offering a stylish and beautiful kiln-transmuted finish that perfectly showcases Akiya’s signature style. The cup, fired with ample fuel, has a refined brownish-red surface that looks as if the iron content within the clay has been carefully drawn out. Conversely, the saucer was stacked during firing to preserve the clay's natural color, resulting in a white surface accented by striking, lightning-like hidasuki (fire-cord) markings.
