Description
This is a new cup and saucer by Masao Akiya, who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with original personality within a fresh aesthetic. This cup and saucer set features a magnificent landscape created through the traditional anagama firing technique of the Isezaki school, allowing you to enjoy the stylish and beautiful kiln transformations that are characteristic of Mr. Akiya's work. The cup, fired with an abundance of fuel, has an elegant, brownish surface that seems to have slowly drawn out the iron content from the clay. In contrast, the saucer was stacked during firing, resulting in a white surface that highlights the natural color of the clay and features flash marks (hidaski) that look like bolts of lightning.
