Description

This is the new sake cup "NOBUNAGA," the Sixth Demon King, by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is a highly original and exceptional piece that reflects Mr. Ichikawa's style of giving shape to his endless stream of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to its title, "NOBUNAGA," the Sixth Demon King, this piece was created with the image of the Sengoku warlord Oda Nobunaga, who met a tragic end just before unifying the country. It uses feldspar glaze, commonly seen in Mino ware from Gifu, a place with deep ties to Nobunaga, while a single streak of red glaze, reminiscent of his "Hagakure" series, evokes the burning of Honno-ji Temple. Bold gold accents are applied, following the grand and magnificent image of Nobunaga. Furthermore, in a rare move for an Ichikawa work, the Bizen clay body is left exposed, demonstrating the expanding range of the artist's expression. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 7.9cm × 7.8cm × Height 7.0cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and became independent in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
