Description

This is a new sake cup titled "ORIBE" by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a sensational debut. It is a highly original and exceptional piece, characteristic of Ichikawa-sensei, who brings his endless stream of ideas to life through the sublime medium of clay. True to the name ORIBE, the piece evokes a Narumi-Oribe atmosphere by combining red clay slip with Oribe green glaze. It is sharply faceted into a hexagonal shape, and the crepe-like wrinkles created by swiftly shaving the clay can be seen through the highly transparent green glaze, while the opaque red clay areas are accented with a white glaze drizzle to create a textural contrast. Inside the cup, the glaze pools and thickens to create a jade-like hue, possessing a beauty that draws you into a sea of jade. It is a large, dynamic piece that nearly approaches the size of a small teacup. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 6.8cm x 6.3cm x Height 6.6cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
