Description

This is a freshly kiln-fired Bizen sake cup by Kazuki Nakamura, a creator of deeply tasteful works who follows in the tradition of master sake-ware artisans Rokuro Nakamura and Shin Nakamura. While inheriting the lineage of these masters, this cup is quintessentially Kazuki, subtly incorporating a unique character into his style that distinguishes it from his father and grandfather. It is enveloped in a dry, crusty sesame glaze reminiscent of tree bark, while the front reveals a beautiful scarlet hue, as if opening the folds of a kimono. The rich scarlet clay, a closely guarded Nakamura family secret, is exceptionally beautiful; it is a delight to both behold and use, with a surface texture that will grow smoother and more refined with time, offering tremendous potential as a vessel for sake. The rhythmically undulating rim and the triangular carved foot reflect his masterful inheritance of the techniques cultivated by his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, through his own deep appreciation of sake. Signed wooden box (double-slat lid)
Diameter 7.7cm × 7.6cm × Height 5.4cm Kazuki Nakamura was born in 1980 as the eldest son of Shin Nakamura. After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather and father to hone his pottery skills. He fired his first kiln in 2006 and became an independent artist.
